At ABUD Science, two presentations were held on the 21st of June. Javed Iqbal introduced us to a greater understanding for early design modelling and Ada Gelesz presented on the energy saving potential of double-skin facades in the framework of her PhD research.

14.00-15.30 /Adrienn Gelesz: Energy Saving Potential of Double Skin Facades

Double skin façades (DSFs) are technologies that can reduce energy use and improve comfort in buildings due to their adaptable nature and possibility to utilize solar energy in the façade cavity. Predicting performance of the DSFs and optimizing the system during the design phase is needed, in order to avoid detrimental effects of cavity overheating, and to assess heat recovery potential of the cavity-air. The presenation shows validation and sensitivity analysis for DSF models in a whole-building energy simulation (BES) software tool, that is an adequate tool for calculating whole building performance during design stage.
