POSITIVE ENERGY DISTRICTS (PEDs): PART II.

Energy-Producing Urban Rehabilitation Project in Spain

We are proud to highlight a recent publication of our article in the leading Hungarian online architectural magazine Építészfórum, that delves into innovative urban renewal efforts in Spain. The piece titled “Positive Energy Districts: Part II – Energy-Producing Urban Rehabilitation Project in Spain,” (“Pozitív energia körkép II. rész: Energiatermelő városrehabilitáció Spanyolországban”) offers an insightful exploration into how urban areas are being transformed into positive energy neighbourhoods.

The focus of this piece is on the social and technical questions surrounding Barcelona’s pioneering project that integrates renewable energy sources into the urban fabric, bringing to life a positive energy neighbourhood and energy community. As part of the EU-funded syn.ikia research project, it aims to not only rehabilitate urban areas but also to turn them into hubs of energy production, contributing positively to the environment and the community.

At ABUD, we are dedicated to advancing knowledge and practices in sustainable urban development. We believe that sharing these innovative approaches can inspire and guide future projects worldwide.

We invite you to read the full article (in Hungarian – English version to come soon) to explore the transformative potential of energy-producing urban rehabilitation and to join us in our commitment to a sustainable future.
