THE 3rd JUSTNATURE PROJECT MEETING IN BUDAPEST
JUSTNature Project held its 3rd Project Meeting and Collaborative CiPeL Workshop between 6-9 March 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, where representatives from 7 City Practice Labs and over 13 organizations discussed the developments of this Horizon2020 project focusing on activating nature-based solutions (NbS) and a socially just transition to low-carbon cities.
The aim of the meeting was to review the progress made so far in the project as well as discuss any challenges participants encountered, brainstorm solutions and hear suggestions from members of the consortium regarding the implementation of the project.

“We discussed Nature-based solutions design in technical, participation, business, governance, digital and innovations. Excellent interactive workshops, parallel sessions and dinners with Hungarian cuisine for the consortium were hosted by Szombathely CiPeL (City Practice Lab) and the partner ABUD – Advanced Building & Urban Design.”
Following the Project meeting, a Collaborative CiPeL Workshop was held in Szombathely on 8-9 March, the demo location where the NbS developed in the project are implemented in Hungary. The Collaborative CiPeL Workshop focused on sharing experiences regarding previously held stakeholder workshops organized across all demo sites (Chania (Greece), Gzira (Malta), Leuven (Belgium), Merano & Bolzano (Italy), Munich (Germany) and Szombathely (Hungary). They further visited the Szombathely demo locations along the Gyöngyös creek and Dési Huber István Elementary School where NbS (nature-based solutions) will be implemented as part of the project.
“We started the day by presenting the framework for assessing co-governance, followed by a small workshop with various partners to share ideas and revise co-governance indicators and protocols.” (JUSTNature Project)

The session about Local Stakeholder Workshops uncovered challenges with data access barriers and abstract and unpredictable indicators, and participants shared their experiences regarding expectation management with citizens, methods for engaging and mapping stakeholders.
The meeting provided excellent ground for sharing experiences, progress, and ideas. As the project enters the implementation phase, it is ever more important to reflect on our achievements and challenges. Furthermore, it was great to see everyone involved in the realisation of the project!
