Useful tools for characterization and simulation of Positive Energy District (PED)

This week, Senior Consultant Melinda Orova participated in a Training School in the field of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) organised by Dalarna University in Sweden.

The training school in the Borlänge campus of Dalarna University focused on enabling capacity building and facilitating the exchange of ideas between researchers, professionals, PhD students, municipalities and stakeholders regarding Positive Energy Districts (PED).

The opportunity acquainted participants with state-of-the-art methods and tools for characterization and simulation of PED, which aims to assist the design and planning of PED. Participants became familiar with established and emerging tools for the simulation of PED and got hands-on experience in working on a real case study with selected digital tools for advancing research and practice. Furthermore, the training school also focused on how Sweden is developing PED.

By the end of the training school, participants understood the benefits and challenges in using different methods and tools for PED simulation; acquired the skills to evaluate and use a variety of appropriate models and methods for data modelling, data mining and text analytics and identify, select, and use appropriate platforms for sharing research and teaching resources. They are able to use digital tools and methods to extract, analyse, present and interpret information for the production of PED related scholarly  knowledge; recognize the advantages of reproducible research and take advantage of currently available tools for performing and publishing data analyses in a reproducible manner and critically reflect upon PED related issues of digital research.
