We have a great concern for the global problems of our built environment, such as their detrimental effects on nature, the increase of energy consumption and waste production, and the degradation of historical and cultural heritage, which are the highest in urban areas. Since 2007, more than 50% of the world population lives in cities, and urbanization is still growing. Furthermore, the majority of the energy consumed nationwide is used in our cities: street lighting, energy supply of buildings, public transport and industry. The sustainable operation of our cities is gaining greater importance today.
In order to live in a sustainable and energy conscious city, it is inevitable that we recognize the problems of our urban environment, research possible interventions and increase sustainable performance with integrated design solutions. Environmentally conscious urban design leads not only to a more liveable and attractive cityscape, but also to lower energy consumption.
Recognizing all these facts, ABUD places great emphasis on sustainable urban design practices. We provide a holistic design approach for our clients, covering both urban energy planning and comprehensive sustainability consultancy.
As part of our services, we provide data collection, research, strategy and sustainable indicator system development, urban energy density maps, smart city concepts, and pracitcal solutions for the enhancement of our buildings and urban environment to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Based on our approach, we can maximise the advantages of cities as complex systems and minimise their unfavourable characteristics and impacts.
