USER-CENTRED ENERGY MODELLING AT POLLACK EXPO
On 23 April, at the Pollack Expo’s Architectural Professional Lectures section, Ábel Magyari presented a talk titled “Rethinking Building Energy Modelling from a User-Centred Perspective.” The presentation introduced the theoretical foundations of a new modelling paradigm that will be applied within the Energy4All project. The approach combines Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) with conventional building energy modelling to better capture the influence of occupant behaviour on building performance.
A central focus of the presentation was how integrating user behaviour into energy simulations can help reduce the well-known “performance gap” between predicted and actual building energy use. By representing occupants as active agents whose decisions and interactions shape energy consumption patterns, the proposed methodology offers a more realistic understanding of how buildings operate in practice.
The presentation also outlined how this innovative framework will be implemented and tested within the Energy4All project through investigations at the Kazán Community House. The research aims to generate new insights into the relationship between users and building performance, supporting the development of more effective, inclusive, and sustainable energy solutions for the built environment.
