JUSTNature Project

The aim of JUSTNature is to activate nature-based solutions in order to facilitate a just transition to low-carbon cities.

JUSTNature Project is based on the principle that everyone has the right to ecological space: the right to clean air, indoor/outdoor thermal comfort, as well as thriving biodiversity and ecosystems.

Today, this fundamental right is threatened by cities’ ever-increasing energy consumption and GHG emissions. Aiming to reverse this trend, the EU-funded initiative will develop technical and social innovations to activate nature-building potential in urban communities and accelerate just, viable nature-based solutions.

As part of the project, Six City Practice Labs were established across Europe including Chania (Greece), Gzira (Malta), Leuven (Belgium), Merano & Bolzano (Italy), Munich (Germany) and Szombathely (Hungary).

ABUD is one of the 20-member consortium working together towards achieving project objectives as well as leveraging in-depth expertise of city partners and partner organizations, with the main role of: lifecycle, distributional modelling of ecosystem services, demonstrating the nature-building community model, gender mainstreaming, and stakeholder engagement.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101003757.
