Net Zero Energy Concept

The Net Zero Energy Concept was chosen by Lidl through an invitational architectural competition for the design of an energy conscious and environmentally friendly supermarket. During the design, special emphasis was laid on comfortable indoor spaces for the workers and customers,

with sustainable operation and passive energy saving methods like an optimised building skin, a high percentage of natural lighting, and the utilisation of waste heat. The planning was assisted by a wide range of simulation tools, defining both the onsite solar energy potentials and daylighting. The integrated design resulted in a sustainable building design capable of reaching an on-site net zero energy level.
