The Kilden Kindergarten, Norway

Sustainability Concept for “FutureBuilt”

ABUD assisted with a concept design for a kindergarten in Oslo, Norway. An analysis of passive design techniques and HVAC options offered ideas to improve opportunities for thermal comfort, natural ventilation, and shading. Thanks to analyses of solar access and daylightn, energy use could be significantly decreased, as quantified through building energy models. The concept design process was also supported by an analysis of solar radiation striking the rooftops to determine optimal solar panel placement locations. The evaluation was prepared for a potential BREEAM certification, and water and waste management solutions, low LCA and recycled materials were suggested to support the goal of using environmentally and climate-friendly materials.
