JUSTCLIMATE PROJECT KICKED OFF IN SZOMBATHELY

The official kick-off of the JustClimate project was held on the 17th of April in Szombathely with the participation of our colleague, Luca Veress. The JustClimate project aims to help Szombathely make the transition to climate neutrality. Climate transition is a systemic change, requiring proportional, fair, coordinated contributions from a multitude of actors, ensuring no one is left behind. This initiative is based on democratising climate governance, integrating network governance, and employing reflective co-monitoring to ensure a just and equitable transition.

The aim of the launch event was to show that everyone has a role to play in the climate-neutral transition and to convince as many actors as possible to join in and sign a declaration of intent. Two important elements of the transition are the Climate City Contract and the creation of a Transition Arena. The former is a dynamic action and financial plan that builds on existing knowledge, strategies, and documents of Szombathely. The aim of the Contract is to involve all stakeholders of the city and guide them through a just climate transition and reach city-wide climate neutrality. Secondly, the Transition Arena will serve as a forum for all of the relevant stakeholders of Szombathely: industry experts, public service professionals, members of NGOs and educational institutions. Adopting the methodology of co-design, the project will work with them to develop a process for climate transition, from which everyone can benefit.

The first joint planning workshop will take place on 7th of May, where we will learn about the greenhouse gas emissions and its consequences.
