MOPED – Multi-disciplinary and Occupant-centric lab for Positive Energy district acceleration in Debrecen

MOPED – PED Lab in Debrecen for the acceleration of PEDs

Debrecen has set out to facilitate the development of 3 Positive Energy Districts in the city. However, there was a lack of experience among citizens, contractors, regulators and investors on how Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) work, are organised and managed, and the inherent complexity discourages commitment. To overcome these barriers, a PED laboratory was set up in a municipal kindergarten.

During the project, the project team simulated PED scenarios, how they affect occupant wellbeing and how occupant behaviour affects energy performance, flexibility, costs and benefits. The outcome of the project provided practical and specific data on the PED potential in Debrecen, data on the PED performance gap and how to mitigate the risk of PED development. The results are useful in convincing building operators, property developers and citizens to commit to PEDs.

Here is the summary of the project’s results, including downloadable brochures.

This project has received funding from Scalable Cities Action Grant (Grant Agreement ID 303– Scalable Cities project ID 03HUN00034S).
