GUEST LECTURE AT THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MUNICH

Consultant Francisca Tapia and CEO Dr. András Reith PhD were invited by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to give a lecture on 5 December 2022 as part of the lecture series ‘Green Urban Transformations‘ organised by the Chair of Sustainable Urban and Rural Development (TUM School of Engineering and Design). We were honoured for the invitation of Prof. Dipl. Arch. ETH SIA, Mark Michaeli, Ishika Alim and Julia Micklewright, as TUM is considered the top university in Germany according to major university rankings in 2022 and is among the leading universities of the European Union, its researchers and alumni including 18 Nobel-prize laureates.

The lecture series organised investigates sustainable urbanism from a number of perspectives, including Urban green transformation (Prof. Mark Michaeli, TUM), Urban green infrastructure (Dr. Simone Linke, TUM), Biodiversity (Dr. Christoph Küffer, Ostschweizer Fachhoschule), Nature based solutions in public space (Deborah Lambert, Felixx landscape architects, Rotterdam), Brownfields, biodiversity and people (Dr. Sandra Jasper Humboldt Universität, Berlin),  Microclimate and densification (Dr. Sabrina Erlwein, TUM), Designing for water global challenging (Dr. Antje Stokman) – and is delivered by notable experts of the field.

The lecture given by Francisca and András titled “Urban infrastructure and building solutions” – aimed to highlight key considerations involved in assessing the environmental, climatic and social merits of green and blue infrastructure practices. It examined the necessary steps to calculate a variety of performance benefits gained by implementing green infrastructure strategies and then, where possible, demonstrated simplified illustrative examples that estimate the magnitude and value of these benefits for climate adaptation and mitigation.
